Mega Man 11 Demo Version Playthrough

The game feels almost right but not exactly the same as previous Mega Man games, specially when compared to the NES ones (or the ones inspired by them like 10). It’s still a great game, but I think the walking animation is still off and, gameplay-wise, it feels a bit clunky in certain actions such as when climbing ladders or sliding. You can get used to it quickly, though. Also, the music is a bit lacking too, IMO, but maybe that’s just a problem with Block Man’s stage. And the sound effects feel off too by some reason, like if they are a bit dull this time compared to the previous games. The Japanese voice-acting is also better than the English one, although the difference is not as noticeable as it was in Mega Man 8 and English is still acceptable this time.

(This video is actually edited and contains a mix of the first time I started the game and checked the menus with the second full playthrough of Block Man’s stage. It was hard to find a part where to combine both segments seamlessly since the loading times are quite good.)

Mario Tennis Aces still fails at offering game options

At least the characters and mechanics are getting worked on, though.

I finally decided to start up Mario Tennis Aces again to check the last update they did to the game. As expected, they have not fixed the biggest problems with the game menus and options available.

Besides the much needed gameplay balance, one of the things that Mario Tennis Aces really needs are new game options, specially when playing offline. Like I said in my Quick Review a while ago, the game barely has any content and it depends mostly on the replay value of its simple online multiplayer. And the little content that it has is quite complicated and confusing to configure the way you want. Sadly, the rushed updates clearly indicate that the game was released incomplete, similar to how it happened to Mario Tennis Ultra Smash.

Domain upgraded to HTTPS and Makendou Central first updates

A few days ago, the server where N Masters is hosted received an upgrade.  (Special thanks to Slushie for all of this) The most obvious change from the user perspective is that it now has secure connections available on the whole domain. That means that you can now connect through HTTPS to any of the sites hosted at n-masters.com . Also, the official URL of N Masters is now simply https://n-masters.com . Yep, the “www.” part is gone. You can still use it if you want but your browser will probably bug you about it since the HTTPS is configured for the new address. All the other URLs are the same besides the change to from “http” to “https” at the beginning. There were also a few other behind the scene upgrades too which should help making more efficient each of the sites hosted.

At the moment, most of of the links at N Masters will probably end up redirecting you to the regular HTTP version. There’s no issue with that but I’ll try to get it fixed in the next days. The other sites, though, should be mostly fine and will actually try to redirect you to the new HTTPS version.

Besides that, I’m starting to work on the new design for Makendou Central now. At the moment, I’ll try to put everything back up without much customization just so that the content is still easily accesible. I also opened up one of the sections I was talking about since a while ago, the Fan Gallery. It’s easily accesible from the front page of the site and already has a few pieces of fan art that I’ve found or that people have submitted. I’m still planning on how the gallery will end up working, but if anyone wants to submit their fan art, you can send me a PM through the forum. (You can also send them through the FB page or G+ one, but I don’t really recommend those methods as I rarely check them now. They’re pretty much automatized.)

Example of how Shantae HGH’s bad localization could be improved

Based on what I’ve read, Shantae games have always been translated badly. No need to even review the localization when the basic translation is already bad. While I can’t confirm that it’s always been bad, I know it’s not good in both Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse and the last entry, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero. And the Ultimate Edition of Half-Genie Hero doesn’t change the translation at all, so it’s still really bad. This seems to apply to every language available since I read reviews from Japanese users stating that, while the gameplay is good, the text has issues.

To show how bad the current translation is and how the localization could be improved, I decided to copy two parts of the game’s original (English) script and then translate and localize them to Spanish myself. After that, I decided to copy the current Spanish translation just so that it can be compared with my translation. I also translated the current Spanish script back to English to compare it with the original English script and also so that people who know English but not Spanish can see how bad it is.

Assault Android Cactus needs to be available on Switch

Several weeks ago, I was able to play Assault Android Cactus thanks to the Xbox Live Gold free games program. I was really surprised that the game isn’t better known since it’s actually a really good game. It’s a twin stick shooter where the focus isn’t in knowing how to survive but instead is in knowing how to defeat your enemies as efficiently as possible. Survival is just part of it as it’s obviously always more beneficial to be actively attacking the whole time than having to be waiting until your character reactivates.

Before I go on with this post, I want to clear up that this isn’t a review (or a Quick Review). While part of  it can be taken as a review, this will focus more on why I think the game would be great on Switch.

Old Practice Drawing of Rie

Apparently, I can draw. Here’s an old drawing of Rie that I did on January of last year.

I honestly didn’t think I could make drawings like this one. ?

Before this, I usually just did stick figure drawings or some really quick and ugly looking ones when I tried something more. It was like I really wasn’t being careful or really trying. I think it wasn’t until the beginning of 2016 when I decided to really try to draw well based on what someone had told me a few years earlier. After that, it’s just been practice, careful observation of art styles that I like, and a few valuable tips from artists that I know.

How not to promote the Nintendo Switch Online service

Aka, Nintendo of America’s recent tweet foolishness.

Nintendo of America recently posted this on their Twitter to promote the upcoming Nintendo Switch Online service:

So their telling us that, with the new Nintendo Switch Online, we’ll be able to play Super Mario Bros. 3 online. A game where the two player mode is not simultaneous but instead is by turns.

Checking the full list of the first 20 titles that will be available, they could have selected either:

  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Mario Bros.
  • Balloon Fight
  • Ice Climber
  • Dr. Mario

All of those games have simultaneous multiplayer mode which would actually show the online service much better. But instead, they go with a game that goes by turns when switching player.

The only way NoA could have made this worse would have been if they had tweeted about playing The Legend of Zelda online.

(Btw, if you look carefully at Nintendo’s screenshot, the game isn’t even being played online but in single player mode, as noted by the player icons on the left. An actual online screenshot is at the bottom of this page.)

Unlocking Trygames version of Mega Man X5

Long ago, I bought Mega Man X5 for PC (Windows) through Trygames since I didn’t own a PlayStation. And of course, back then, everything worked perfectly fine. Today, though, that copy of Mega Man X5 is now permanently locked since Trygames is dead.
